MENTAL ILLNESS IS REAL AND SHOULD BE TREATED AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE. Since the onset of COVID-19, the increase in people affected by mental disorders has spread like a California wildfire with no sign of letting up. Just as firefighters are desperately needed to control the flames until they can be extinguished, mental health providers are needed to help society achieve and maintain psychological and emotional balance.
According to the CDC, there has been a 31% increase in depression and anxiety since March of 2020 There is a 26% increase in traumatic and stressor-related disorder symptoms. Reports of serious suicide consideration is up by more than 11%. Substance use has risen by 13%. This big, beautiful state is now filled with big serious problems.
Mental illness affects the symptomatic person as well as the persons surrounding him or her, such as family, friends, co-workers, significant others, etc. Many conditions initiated in childhood and adolescence. Other conditions surfaced in early adulthood. But we should be clear: MENTALLY ILL CHILDREN GROW UP TO BECOME MENTALLY ILL ADULTS. These conditions can have a genetic predisposition and is locked into families. Some conditions are triggered by a tragic event or substance use. Mental illness affects education, earning potential, relationships, social behavior, physical health,and the entire life.
